Law firms and paper go hand in hand. At least that's the way it's been for hundreds of years. But when a large Wilmington-based law firm sought a way to update its workflow and research processes, e-brilliance developed a solution that moved them into the 21st century with a paperless and more profitable approach.
e-brilliance revamped several paper-based processes by developing electronic forms using Microsoft InfoPath and SharePoint Forms Services. These forms were deployed to SharePoint and implemented as part of an automated workflow process.
Prior to its relationship with e-brilliance, the firm's volumes of existing case law research could be accessed electronically through a basic portal but the information was only indexed on an Excel spreadsheet with hyperlinks corresponding to each of the cases. In the old system, attorneys were forced to print out the spread sheet and manually search through cases in given categories. It was timely, inefficient and in many cases ineffective.
The e-brilliance team developed and implemented a solution that increased productivity through the firm's SharePoint portal, creating an online document repository with a search function that could be customized by any number of variables from date to type of case to company name and more.
The solution was successfully implemented in the firm's Intellectual Property practice and is now being adopted firm wide. It is part of an ongoing initiative being spearheaded by e-brilliance to automate all of the firm's workflow and processes while eliminating paper wherever possible.
The feedback from the client has been overwhelming. They says systems cuts down on paper, eliminates headaches, dramatically reduces the time it takes to research case law, but most importantly increases billability and profitability. Case closed.
